LET IT aLL sTART hERE
For Catholics who care...
The facilitator begins:
You're home alone. There's a knock at the door. You don't feel safe when someone uninvited calls. You don't open the door to strangers. Your father warned you about that. Your father was a stranger. Through a winking blind you see the back of a man's hand, his sturdy wrist-- a wine stain. Now the facilitator's voice: You open the door. Jesus is standing there. What do you do? Someone's grandmother anchored by her crucifix calls out: Slam the door! But you don't hear her or the laughter. You don't look for your shoes, you don't hesitate. Instead, you take His arm, walk Him to the top of the porch steps and say: Sit here with me. Let's watch for evening. I have been looking for you for such a long time.

This is a beautifully written, thought provoking poem. It touches upon our fears as well as our yearnings. We are afraid of the stranger whether it be a person who is unknown to us or even a spiritual figure. So often I hear people say that they are afraid of listening for the Lord's voice because it may NOT be His voice--it could be our own minds or it could be words from the devil. I know how they feel. I've been in situations when I really thought it was the voice of the Lord who was speaking and it wasn't. So we have to pray. We need to trust. We also need to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation so that there's no unlocked doors or windows left ajar in our hearts for the devil to enter. We also need to pray to the Holy Spirit to give us His discernment and also the wisdom to recognize whatever confirmation He gives us concerning His words. Having a personal relationship with the Lord, being able to sit with Him in silence and just bask in His love, is about as close to Heaven as we'll get on earth. We should encourage others to seek Him with all their hearts but we also have to realize that the devil is roaming about like a lion ready to devour us. So we must grow close to the Lord, call upon Him to protect us and pray that His Holy Mother will cast her mantle of protection over us to keep us safe. Whenever in doubt, pray Psalm 91. It is a very powerful shield against onslaughts of the evil one.

That's great! Where's Brighthill Press? I have a Kateri class that day in Troy but I'll be rooting for you!
